EXCELLENT ESTYN REPORT 2025
Tue 22 Jul 2025Following our inspection in May - a rigorous and thorough process - we all feel incredibly proud to be part of a school that is, as the inspectors describe, “a happy, caring and nurturing” place where pupils thrive. For all stakeholders involved, the inspection process was a hugely positive experience and a clear validation of the hard work and dedication shown by our staffing team. The report highlights the strong and respectful relationships between governors, staff, parents/carers, and pupils - a partnership that makes Pembrey such a special place for children to learn and grow.
Inspectors recognise the strength of our inclusive ethos, and we are particularly proud to see praise for our “highly effective learning environment,” where pupils “develop excellent attitudes towards their learning” and staff “act as positive role models.
Two areas also received special recognition in the form of ‘Spotlights’:
- Outdoor learning has been praised for its “innovative use to improve attitudes to learning,” especially for engaging pupils and supporting collaboration, perseverance and resilience in our pupils.
Our ongoing approach to connecting learning inside and outside the classroom is clearly having a powerful impact. We know that our Forest School area has grown from strength to strength over the years and to read that it is having such a positive influence on our learners is so encouraging to be told.
- Welsh language development has also been highlighted, with all staff commended for modelling Welsh “exceptionally well” and immersing pupils in the language in meaningful ways.
It is heartening to see that pupils are not only gaining Welsh language skills but also developing real pride in our Welsh culture and a sense of belonging (‘cynefin’) within the locality.
As Headteacher of an English-medium school where Welsh is taught as a second language, I am very proud of this praise. We are delighted that our efforts to nurture a sense of pride and identity in being a citizen of Wales among our learners, has been recognised.
We are all proud of Team Pembrey - just step inside the school and you will understand what we mean.
