Summer 23
Welcome! Croeso!
This is the Year 4 webpage.
Welcome to the Summer term in Year 4. On this page you will find information about
topics, activities and our timetable for this term. I am looking forward to sharing lots of wonderful learning experiences with your children this term and I cannot wait to tell everyone about our theme. Let's find out what we will be studying in Year 4 this Summer term...
Our theme for the this term will be focused upon …
To begin the Summer Term we will be reading the story ‘What we’ll build’ written by Oliver Jeffers which is an inspirational story describing some of the amazing things we are able to create with our hands. This term we will be focusing on building a healthy body and will be exploring lots of ways in which we can live a happy, fulfilling and healthy lifestyle through our theme. Throughout this theme, we will learn about the importance of creating a healthy mind and body by exploring healthy relationships, having a balanced diet, exercising, exploring nature and simply doing things that make us feel happy!
Initially, the children will take part in an action packed circuit session with a real-life personal trainer and put their fitness to the test and we’ll learn some top tips on how physically take care of our bodies. Using their digital skills they will code a microbit to create a pedometer. They will use this pedometer to investigate the improvement in their fitness throughout the term with their ongoing participation in the daily mile. Maybe we could present our progress by recording the results in a bar graph?
During well-being week the children will learn about the importance of eating healthily and this will include exploring the eat well plate and exploring the different types of food groups. They will even have an opportunity to follow and make healthy recipes too! Perhaps we could create a class recipe book full of healthy balanced meals that we could all enjoy?
I can’t wait for us to develop our business skills by becoming little entrepreneurs during entrepreneurial week. This year, we will be teaming up with the reception children to create a fantastic product to sell. I wonder what we will decide to make? I really hope that we will make the most profit!
Following on from some of the skills introduced during entrepreneurial week we will develop our money skills even further by designing a healthy snack pack or lunch box for the children to enjoy during sports day this year. We will be able to calculate the total cost of our product and how much profit we hope to make on the day! Also, in preparation for sports day we could practise our physical fitness and use our time skills to calculate how long we take to complete different sporting events with our friends.
Have you ever wondered what the best type of material is to create a super fast running shoe? Well, this term a Welsh rugby star needs our help to design a trainer that will help him
to run as fast as he can to score lots of tries for Wales. Can we put our science jackets on and investigate which material is best for a running trainer? Perhaps we could go a step further and use the skills that we learned during entrepreneurial week to redesign the Welsh rugby jersey and pitch the Welsh squad our designs?
Does this all sound exciting? Remember in our EPIC sessions it's your ideas that count so get your thinking caps on ... what would YOU like to find out about how to build a healthy you? I look forward to all of the learning that we will take part in together over the next term!
