Autumn 2022
Welcome! Croeso!
This is the Year 4 webpage.
Welcome to the Autumn term in Year 4. On this page you will find information about
topics, activities and our timetable for this half term. I am looking forward to sharing lots of exciting learning experiences with your children this term and I cannot wait to tell everyone about our first theme. Let's find out what we will be studying in Year 4 this Autumn half term...
Our theme for this term is going to be...
Me, Myself and I
To begin the Autumn Term we will be reading the story ‘Here We Are’ written by Oliver Jeffers which is a lovely story describing all of the wonders of our world. This half term we will be focusing on the human body and will therefore be going on an exciting voyage of discovery through our theme ‘Me, Myself and I’. Throughout this theme the
children will explore the busy world inside their bodies, with a particular focus on their toothy grin and the digestive system and healthy eating. Have you ever wondered why we have two sets of teeth? Or what teeth are made of? Perhaps you have been fascinated by how food travels through your body?
Initially, the boys and girls in Year 4 will speak to a dental expert about the
importance of keeping their teeth sparkling clean. They will also learn about the different types of teeth we have and how they all work together to help us chew our food. Through a scientific exploration, the children will investigate the impact of various sugary substances upon the enamel on their teeth. The children will then create a fact file, explaining how to look after their teeth and practise their presenting and oracy skills by sharing their findings with younger children in the school.
The children will learn about the different organs in their bodies and follow a story map to retell the journey of a tasty morsel of food as it makes its way through the
digestive system, helped by some mouth-watering saliva. Our pupils will use their
imaginations in order to write a fantasy story of their own journey as if they were a piece of food travelling through each part of the digestive system. Throughout this term we will learn about how we can best look after this marvellous belching, squelching, mixture making machine that we call our body.
Does this sound exciting? Remember in our EPIC sessions it's your ideas that count so get your thinking caps on ... what would YOU like to find out about our bodies
Our new theme this term is ‘Here We Are’. Our theme is based on the wonderful
story written by Oliver Jeffers. The story explores our magical world and will teach us all about how important it is to care for and appreciate our planet and all of the people, animals, habitats and landscapes in our wonderful world. In year 4, we will be focusing on the incredible underwater world, we will be diving deep into stories about the creatures that live in the deep dark ocean and researching facts about famous explorers and following some of their incredible discoveries. How about writing about some of these famous explorers and their achievements to date?
