Pembrey Primary School Pupil Development Grant Statement

The Pupil Development Grant (PDG) and Early Years PDG is allocated to schools with pupils who come from low-income families and are currently known to be eligible for free school meals (e-FSM) and pupils who have been looked after continuously for more than six months (CLA). 

Schools are expected to make the best use of this funding to implement sustainable strategies that will quickly bring about changes for learners eligible for free school meals or who are CLA). 

For 2026 -2027, Pembrey School has been provided with a PDG allocation of £41,449.  In addition to this we received £2,300 for pupils in the Early Years.

 At Pembrey School we have a comprehensive plan, agreed and monitored by Carmarthenshire Local Authority, to promote progress and remove barriers to learning for students eligible for this funding.

We have used the funding available to:

• Employ teaching assistants to work with targeted children in one-to-one or small group settings, focusing on improving basic skills in reading, literacy, and numeracy 

• Enable staff to be released to deliver 1:1 and small group interventions (e.g. Positive Play, CHATT, ELSA) to help pupils manage emotions, develop social skills, and enhance their readiness to learn. 

• Enable pupils to have forest school sessions, providing hands-on learning experiences that promote engagement and wellbeing. 
• Implement and use data tracking systems to identify learners’ needs, target interventions and monitor impact.
•  Improve attendance figures in line with Local Authority targets.
