Spring 23
Our theme for the term is going to be..
Welcome to the Spring term in Reception Class. On this page you will find information about topics, activities and our timetable for this half term. I am looking forward to sharing lots of fun learning experiences with your children this term and I cannot wait to tell everyone about our first theme. Let's find out what we will be studying in Reception Class this Spring half term...
Our theme for the first half of the term is going to be..
To begin the Spring Term, we will enjoy listening to the traditional tale
‘Little Red Riding Hood’ and create a character portrait to describe the
big bad wolf from the story. We will learn about what a stranger is and
how to stay safe if a stranger approaches us. I wonder was the food in
Granny’s basket healthy. Let’s find out which foods are healthy and not
so healthy so we can make healthy eating choices.
We will enjoy the story ‘Tedi Twt a’r Tywydd’. We will look at all the different types of weather and learn about the different types of clothes we need to
wear. Shall we get our raincoats and wellies on and go for a Welly Walk in the rain? I wonder if we’ll find some muddy puddles to jump and splash in. We
could make a musical weather story together using instruments and body
percussion.
Let’s celebrate Dydd Santes Dwynwen, the Welsh equivalent to Valentine's Day. I hope you enjoy the lovely story of Dwynwen, the Welsh patron saint of lovers. Perhaps we can do lots of activities based on the theme of love.
Finally, to end our project, we are going to learn the Welsh rhyme ‘Hen Fenyw Fach Cydweli’ which is a song about the little old lady of Kidwelly selling black sweets. I think we could sing this song for our friends on St David’s Day. Maybe we could go to Kidwelly and visit the amazing Kidwelly Castle.
It's over to you - time to start thinking of your ideas for our EPIC session, where we will decide together what we can learn about in our exciting theme 'Caru Cymru'.
After the Spring half term, we will be studying
TICK TOCK, TURN BACK THE CLOCK
We are going to love learning all about how life in the past was different from today. Let’s compare clothes that children wore in the past with the clothes
you wear today. The story Rachel’s Washday will help us to find out what ‘Washday’ would have been like before the invention of the washing machine.
Let’s explore the different forms of transport, whether that’s in the sky, on land or on the water and discover how this has changed over time. We could go on our very own fantastic journey in the locality. How many different forms of transport will we use? What will we see and hear? How has our locality changed? Let's explore together! Following this we could spend some time drawing our story maps to tell our friends all about our fantastic journey.
I can’t wait for us all to dress up for World Book Day. Who will you be? What story will you be from? I’ll share the story ‘Three Little Sheep’ written by the Welsh author Rob Lewis. What will you remember from the story? Shall we do a Kahoot quiz to find out? Would you like to make your own sheep from the story? Let’s go outside and follow the story map to find the hidden pictures from the story.
Let’s have fun during Fairtrade Fortnight! Shall we use the smoothie bike to make some delicious smoothies? Get set go, in our fairtrade football obstacle course. We will find out what fairtrade means and learn about the journey of the fairtrade banana to the shops.
Tedi Twt loves to have a picnic! Let’s find out what he likes to eat in his story ‘Picnic Tedi Twt’. I think we could even have our own yummy picnic.
During the season of spring, we will learn about the natural changes that happen, how the weather changes and the festivals that are celebrated at
this time of year.
Does this sound exciting? Remember in our EPIC sessions it's your ideas that count so get your thinking caps on ... what would YOU like to find out about?
