Autumn 22
Welcome! Croeso!
This is the Year 2 webpage.
Welcome to the autumn term in Year 2. On this page you will find information about topics, activities and our timetable for this half term.
Our theme for this term is going to be...
I am looking forward to sharing lots of fun learning experiences with your children this term and I cannot wait to tell everyone about our first theme. Let's find out what we will be studying in Year 2 this autumn term...
This is a fantastic text that introduces the whole world to the author’s new son. There is a vast range of topics covered in this book so we have picked out some aspects to study in year 2 over the course of this term.
We will first be focusing on ourselves, drawing self portraits, getting to know each other and learning about our feelings and the language to describe them. We will learn the importance of children’s rights by creating our class charter and focussing on a different right each month. Next, our focus will the to the local community and what special places and buildings we can find here. Will be finding out why these places are important to the community and what important people we have in our community too by writing questionnaires and having visitors from the community come in to talk to us.
Our reading and writing skills will be developed through lots of fun language activities. We will be looking at two different text types – a blurb and a questionnaire. We will be linking these to what we are learning about in class. Along side this we will be learning about rhyming couplets by looking at the Poem What is Pink? by Christina Rosetti and innovating this to write a poem called What is Pembrey? We will be using our creative skills to look at the work of Welsh artist Rhiannon Roberts and her painting ‘Crazy Cardiff’ so we can create our own versions about Pembrey using everything that we have learned across the half term.
During our Welsh lessons, we will be learning about ‘Fi fy Hun’ and will be able to talk about ourselves and where we live.
In Science and technology, we will be investigating materials and their properties and carrying out a fair test. Then , using our new found knowledge of materials, we will decide what product we can make and what we could use to make it.
All this learning about materials will help us when we survey the litter in our local community. We will create pictograms to show what we have found and think about what we can do to improve the litter in our area.
Also in Maths, we will be developing our number skills, counting, times tables and calculations as well as learning about money in our class role play area and position and direction by drawing plans and maps of the local area.
It’s going to be a busy but exciting but exciting term learning all about Pembrey and our place in the community!
