Summer 23
Welcome! Croeso!
This is the Year 5 webpage.
This term we will transform into super scientists for the summer as we learn new things about the world. As we attempt to understand how light functions, we will discover more about our planet using concepts from Oliver Jeffers' book "What We'll Build." How do we see? How does the eye work? Can we see around corners? All these questions and more will be answered as we investigate how light can be manipulated for a range of different purposes.
To begin we will examine a range of equipment that can alter our vision, learn about various light sources and investigate how our eyes process information. In literacy we’ll write an explanation text about how our eyes see and write a rhyming couplet poem all about light. In numeracy, we’ll learn about area and perimeter, 2d and 3d shapes, nets, reflection and tessellation.
During this term we’re also excited about the return of Entrepreneurial week. We’ll team up with another class and be given a budget where we’ll have to think of a product to sell which appeals to other children across the school. We’ll work collaboratively to plan, create and promote our business to encourage others to buy our product.
We also have many exciting things planned for this Summer Term including Wellbeing Week, swimming and a residential trip. A thrilling end to our fantastic year!
