Welcome! Croeso!
This is the Year 4 webpage.
Welcome to the Spring Term in Year 4. On this page you will find information about topics, activities and our timetable for this term.
I am looking forward to sharing lots of fun learning experiences with you again and I cannot wait to tell everyone about our new theme. Let's find out what we will be studying in Year 4 this Spring half term...
Let’s begin with a challenge – look at these two pictures below… one of them is a picture of Wales and one of them is a picture of Patagonia – can you guess which one is which?
Our theme for the first half of the term is going to be..
Our new theme this term is ‘Eisteddfod’. Did you know that Wales and Patagonia both have a Welsh Eisteddfod - how can that be? We are going to be discovering how that has happened, as well as finding out what else Wales and Patagonia have in common…hmmm, are you getting curious now?
During the first half of the term we are going to be looking forward to our St David’s Day celebrations, Dydd Gwyl Dewi. As you know, each year we learn all about a different Welsh legend or tale – this year we will be learning about a local tale called…

Gwyr y Bwyelli Bach
It is a tale all about ‘the men with little hatchets’, the same hatchets that you can see on our school badge. It is an exciting tale of burning flames, shipwrecks and looting!
It is the perfect drama to act out in our Forest School and we will have a chance to go down to the beach to spot some shipwrecks too!
We will be exploring the ‘Eisteddfod’ closely during the second half of the Spring Term.
We are planning on researching all of the different locations around Wales where the Eisteddfod has taken place. The children will have an opportunity to read a variety of wonderful poems both in Welsh and English and even write some of their own too! We will not only be writing poetry, we plan to have great fun performing poetry too - just like the children at the Eisteddfod! During their P.E sessions the children will be taking part in Welsh Folk dancing with their friends. The children will have an opportunity to explore different types of festival food and even have a go at following and writing some of their favourite recipes too!
I think we should go exploring too … did you know there are Eisteddfod ‘Gorsedd’ stones in TWO places in Llanelli? I think we should go on a trip to find them and find out why they are there!
So come on boys and girls – let’s have even more fun experiences in Year 4!
