Spring & Summer 2021-2022
Welcome! Croeso!
This is the Reception Class webpage.
Welcome to the Spring term in Reception Class. On this page you will find information about topics, activities and our timetable for this half term.
I am looking forward to sharing lots of fun learning experiences with your children this term and I cannot wait to tell everyone about our first theme. Let's find out what we will be studying in Reception Class this Spring half term...
Our theme for the first half of the term is going to be..
To begin the Spring Term, we are going to love learning all about the different types of transport, whether that’s in the sky, on land or on the water. In this project, the children will enjoy listening to the story ‘The Train Ride’ and will have lots of fun too -role playing at our very own Train Station -building our own tracks, tunnels and bridges for the trains –practicing chugging in a line and singing the song ‘Down at the Station’.
We could go on our very own fantastic journey in the locality. How many different forms of transport will we use? What will we see and hear? How has our locality changed? Let's explore together! Following this we could spend some time drawing our story maps to tell our friends all about our fantastic journey.
Finally, to end our project, we are going to look at and design our own ‘Incredible Vehicles’. I wonder what will they look like and what will they be able to do?
It's over to you - time to start thinking of your ideas for our EPIC session, where we will decide together what we can learn about in our exciting theme 'Are we there yet?'
After the Spring half term we will be studying ...
We will enjoy listening to the story Rosie’s Walk, create our very own story map and retell the story with our friends. Rosie wants to find a new place to go for a walk! Where should she go? Shall we take her for a walk to explore some of Pembrey? Tedi Twt loves to have a picnic! Let’s find out what he likes to eat in his story ‘Picnic Tedi Twt’. I think we could retell this story to our friends and family on St David’s Day and maybe we could even have our own yummy picnic.
I can’t wait for us all to dress up for World Book Day and parade in the village. Who will you be? What story will you be from? I’ll share the story ‘Three Little Sheep’ written by the Welsh author Rob Lewis. What will you remember from the story? Shall we do a Kahoot quiz to find out? Would you like to make your own sheep from the story? Let’s go outside and follow the story map to find the hidden pictures from the story.
Let’s celebrate Shrove Tuesday! I hope you enjoy listening to the story ‘The Runaway Pancake’. Perhaps we can follow the instructions and make our own healthy pancakes to enjoy. Why don’t we have our own runaway pancake race? I wonder if the pancake will runaway or get eaten up? Let’s have fun during Fairtrade Fortnight! Shall we use the smoothie bike to make some delicious smoothies? Get set go, in our fairtrade football obstacle course. We’ll find out what fairtrade means and learn about the journey of the fairtrade banana to the shops.
We will enjoy listening to the Bible story ‘Noah’s Ark’. I wonder what fun activities we can do? Why don’t we explore the colours of the rainbow? Shall we move and dance outdoors to retell the story? Let’s match the animals so they can go 2 by 2 into the ark? Can we use sign language and sing the song ‘Lliwiau’r Enfys’? Finally at the end of our project, we will learn about the meaning of Easter and answer the questions, 'Why do we celebrate Easter?' and 'How do we celebrate Easter?'
