Spring 23
Welcome to the Spring Term in Year 4. On this page you will find information about topics, activities and our timetable for this term. I am looking forward to sharing lots of exciting learning experiences with you once again and I cannot wait to tell everyone about our new theme. Let's find out what we will be studying in Year 4 this Spring half term...
The main title of the theme is ‘Caru Cymru’ and we will be finding out about the significant events in history which put our locality, in particular Pembrey and Burry Port on the map. To begin our new term the children will be learning about the local Welsh legend called…
It is a tale all about ‘the men with little hatchets’, the same hatchets that you can see on our school badge. It is an exciting tale of burning flames, shipwrecks and looting!
It is the perfect drama to act out in our Forest School and we will have a chance to go down to the beach to spot some shipwrecks too!
Our pupils will also investigate the close community links we have with Amelia Earhart, we will find out how her travels around the globe led her to Burry Port (as well as much further afield). Keep your eyes peeled in and around our local area for any clues to this famous pilot – there are lots to spot if you look carefully enough!
Throughout the theme the children will be invited to use globes, maps and atlases to explore the im-mediate and distant world around them. They will be able to use their compass skills and four/six fig-ure grid references to delve into the various continents, oceans and countries of the world. Following on from that the children will be exploring Wales in greater detail and conducting an enquiry based on our local area - how interesting!
