Summer 2022-2023
Welcome! Croeso!
This is the Year 6 webpage.
Following our trip to Pembrey Airport at the beginning of this term, the junior scientists in Pembrey will be learning all about forces and how they can be used as a force for good!
Inspired by the book, ‘What We’ll Build’ by Oliver Jeffers, our key concepts this term are energy and motion alongside citizenship. In the book, a father and daughter set about laying the foundations for a future together - using their own special tools, they get to work, building memories to cherish, a home to keep them safe and love to keep them warm. In the same way, we will be using our understanding of how forces act on objects to make them move as a foundation for our concept enquiry. We will be finding out about natural disasters around the world (which will be really exciting!) and how countries and organisations around the world respond, using forces as their special tool to deliver emergency aid to help keep victims safe and warm.
By participating in this creative approach to learning, we will not only be developing our STEM skills, but we will also be learning how to respond to issues in different ways, helping us to become the best citizens of our world that we can be. We will also be learning about substances, keeping healthy and how our bodies are changing which links to our aim of becoming healthy individuals.
It’s going to be a very busy term! We have lots of fun activities to look forward to during Well-Being Week and not only that, we will also be creating our very own products to sell during Entrepreneurial Week.
It is also a very important time of year as we celebrate our time in Pembrey School; we will soon be thinking about our Leaver’s Service and reflecting on all the special memories that we have made … and there are far too many to mention here!
Does this sound exciting? Remember in our EPIC sessions it's your ideas that count so get your thinking caps on ... what would YOU like to find out about using forces for good?
