Spring 2021-2022
Welcome! Croeso!
This is the Year 5 webpage.
Welcome to the Spring term in Year 5. On this page you will find information about topics, activities and our timetable for this half term.
I am looking forward to sharing lots of fun learning experiences with your children this term and I cannot wait to tell everyone about our first theme. Let's find out what we will be studying in Year 5 this Spring half term...
To begin the Spring Term we are going back in time to discover all about the changes to the locality in our project called ‘Llanelli – A History’. In this project we will find out about the changes in the landscape, population, industry and learn about important events that took place in the surrounding area.
To begin, the pupils in Year 5 will visit one of the most notable historic properties in Llanelli. Here they will learn all about the historical significance of ‘Llanelly House’, glimpse into the rich history and discover scandalous secrets of Llanelli in the 18th and 19th Centuries.
The children will carry out research to discover how the industrial revolution helped to shape Llanelli’s landscape, learn about how Pembrey was essential in the First World War and discover how riots in 1911 made national headlines. This project will certainly get you thinking differently about places we are all familiar with!
Does this sound exciting? Remember in our EPIC sessions it's your ideas that count so get your thinking caps on ... what would YOU like to find out about our local area?
Does this sound exciting? Remember in our EPIC sessions it's your ideas that count so get your thinking caps on ... what would YOU like to find out about our local warrior princess?
After the Spring half term we will be studying ...
From ‘Tinopolis’ to tourism. We explore how Llanelli’s rich industrious past had to evolve because of the decline in industry. What jobs did people do instead? How did the local landscape change? What impact did this have on towns and population?
Blwyddyn 5 will learn about the changes in the locality, how local businesses play a vital role in attracting tourists to the area and what makes a successful business. We’ll interview local business owners and speak to budding entrepreneurs to develop ideas of how we can create a successful business.
In this enterprise theme, it’ll be up to us to use our creative and language skills, amongst others, to become young apprentices.
Below is our class timetable - what happens in Year 5 and when.
