Summer 23
Welcome! Croeso!
This is the Year 2 webpage.
Welcome to the summerterm in Year 2. On this page you will find information about topics, activities and our timetable for this half term.
Our theme for this term is going to be...
Do we just hear sound? Or is it something that we can see and feel? In year 2 we will be investigating how we make different sounds, how sound travels and how different music and sounds make us feel. We will use everything that we have learned to build our own instruments using different materials to play in our very own band! We may even get a visit from some local musicians!
In English we will be developing our reading and writing skills using the poem ‘The Sound Collector’. Then we will be learning about instructional writing with the hope of writing our own instructions on how to make the musical instruments we will be creating.
This term we will develop our maths skills by continuing to look at calculations including multiplication, division and subtraction. We will be learning about length and using this to help us with a science investigation to determine how far sound travels.
We will have so much fun discovering how sound is made and conducting lots of mini experiments to find out if we can ‘see’ sound, not only hear it. We will have a visit from a music teacher who will let us explore lots of different instruments and find out all the different ways we can make sounds. We will then investigate how loud or quiet different sounds are by making our very own decibel reader out of microbits. I wonder who can make the loudest musical instrument ?
We will be learning lots of new skills in PE that will prepare us for all the team games we will be playing in the future. We will take part in circuits and try to beat our score each time, learning that it takes practise in order to improve our skills. Stopwatches and scorecards will help us to see our progress. We can’t wait for sports day either!
Remember in our EPIC pupil voice sessions it's your ideas that count so get your thinking caps on ... what would YOU like to find out sound and music?
