Fair Trade Committee and Global Goalkeepers
Fair Trade Committee and Global Goalkeepers
The Fair Trade Committee and Global Keepers work together as a team .Please read below about their roles and responsibilities.
We are very proud to be Fair Achiever School. This means that we have fully embedded Fairtrade into our daily life and we work hard to raise awareness of Fairtrade in our school and local community.
Our Fairtrade committee members have played a huge part in making sure that we have successfully maintained this accolade for a number of years.
During our Fairtrade Committee meetings, the members think of ways to raise awareness of Fairtrade, such as having a Fairtrade stand during school community events, as well as entrepreneurial events during Fairtrade Fortnight. They have the role of helping to ensure that pupils know the importance of buying Fairtrade produce through delivering assemblies, planning competitions and helping to think of ideas for learning experiences across the school. These include looking at the journey of the banana and even cooking a variety of delicious recipes using Fairtrade ingredients. Pupils in each class learn about a different Fairtrade product during Fairtrade Fortnight. Did you know you can even get Fairtrade footballs? Even our very youngest pupils become familiar with the Fairtrade logo and meet Pablo the Banana! Whilst our older pupils have more in-depth discussions about the global issues that surround Fairtrade and how this affects children’s rights. We love being a Fairtrade school!
Pembrey School’s Global Goalkeepers have a range of responsibilities to promote global awareness, celebrate our school’s international links and to educate others on how we can create a sustainable future, both for Wales, and for all other nations.
Pembrey has long established links with Moyeni Primary School in Lesotho with whom we regularly communicate and have cultural exchanges to gain a greater global perspective for our learners. Pupils regularly send letters, take part in video calls and we have even had teachers travel to visit each other’s schools. The Global Goalkeepers have an important role in maintaining this vibrant link between our two wonderful schools.
Another role of the Global Goalkeepers is to promote the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals in our school and wider community. The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) are a set of 17 comprehensive development goals aimed at ensuring a sustainable future for our planet. These goals range from good education to gender equality and match well with our school values.
The Global Goalkeepers also champion global issues though events like Fair Trade Fortnight. Through fun lessons and activities during Fair Trade Fortnight aims to teach our pupils to be good global citizens learning about fair trade and the benefits for farmer and producers around the world.
Please see in this short video some of the work we and other schools do to support and promote global links
