Ethos and Values
Our Vision and Values:
At Pembrey School, our aim is to grow ambitious, independent learners who flourish in a rich and stimulating environment where their own natural curiosity and the voice of each individual is respected, valued, nurtured and encouraged.
We are proud of our safe and inclusive school community, where everyone is supported to develop high self- esteem, build resilience, have a strong moral compass, feel a true sense of belonging and are challenged to reach their own potential, empowering them to make a positive impact in today’s ever-changing world.
Our guiding aims are that all children will be:
- Ambitious, capable learners who are ready to learn throughout their lives.
- Enterprising, creative contributors who are prepared to play a full part in life and work.
- Ethical informed citizens who are proud to be citizens of Wales and the world.
- Healthy, confident individuals who are keen to lead fulfilling lives as valued members of society.
The aims of our school community are ...
- To provide a safe and inclusive environment where everyone feels happy and secure.
- To provide pupils with high quality, innovative teaching and learning experiences that centres on the learning of all learners.
- To teach a broad, balanced and dynamic curriculum, enabling all children to reach their full potential.
- To provide a stimulating and challenging learning environment that develops each child's natural curiosity and independence.
- To develop each child's moral and spiritual being and to promote understanding the skills of empathy and mutual respect.
- To promote fairness, positive behaviour and encourage our learners to value each other equally.
- To foster in each child a positive sense of worth; encourage them to be self-motivating, in order to build high aspirations for oneself and value personal achievement.
- To develop in each individual the skills, attitudes and beliefs needed to become life-long ambitious, creative, ethically informed learners, in an ever-evolving digital world.
- To actively promote Children's Rights and Responsibilities as members of a diverse society.
- To provide children with opportunities to develop bilingualism, encouraging the speaking, reading and writing of Welsh, as well as the knowledge and awareness of Welsh culture, ’cynefin’ and heritage.
- To promote the individuality of all our children, ensuring equality of opportunity for all irrespective of race, religion, gender, ability, physical or sensory impairment, or social background.
- To give due care and consideration to the wellbeing of all those within our school community, recognising that a positive mental state is essential for effective learning and a healthy, constructive work ethic.
- To create and support collaborative working and continuous learning opportunities for all staff, to fully realise the potential of all who work in, and on behalf, of our school.
- To develop in each child an awareness of their position in the wider world and their responsibility for global citizenship, beginning with caring for the local environment while considering issues of sustainability and their impact on the planet as a whole.
- To promote an active and healthy lifestyle by encouraging children to adopt a balanced diet and enjoy the benefits of exercise.
- To foster effective partnerships with children, parents, governors, the L.E.A. and the wider community.
Our Values
The teaching of these values guides the way that we work, the way we improve and the way we make decisions in our school and our community.
As we grow and nurture these values in our learners, we hope these core principles will enable our pupils to flourish in modern society and guide them to become the best that they can be:
